Frozen smoothie bowls - featuring Acai bowl recepie

July 11, 2018

Smoothie bowls are a lot more simpler to make than they look! The reason why I recommend them to clients, especially during the summer months is due to the amount of nutrients and antioxidants you can add to help boost your energy in the mornings.

However, finding the right balance is essential. Many of the bowls are jam packed with so much fruit, my only concern is that there is not enough protein to help balance out those blood sugar levels.

Essentials for smoothie bowls are:

  1. Protein powder - I recommend Purition or The Protein Company.

  2. Frozen fruit & veg -  Berries, acai, pineapple, mango, spinach, kale, avocado

  3. Fillers -  Almond, coconut butter, chia seeds, cacao, coconut yoghurt, vanilla yoghurt, almonds, banana

  4. Toppings - Pecans, pumpkin seeds, pomegranate, coconut shavings, cacao nibs, kiwi, raspberries, blueberries, granola, poppy seeds, apples, banana

You can use the below recipe as a guideline, however I would encourage you to play around and add toppings I have suggested above to make your own unique recipe.

Acai smoothie bowl recipe

Ingredients for two

Benefits - Acai contain the highest amount of antioxidants that protect cells from damage. Free radicals cause this damage to our cells and influence faster aging, we cannot avoid free radicals, as they are all around us, i.e in, pollution and foods we eat. However, these amazing berries from the Amazon rainforest can help reduce the damaging effects to our body and help heal damaged skin cells, restore moisture, giving us that glowing skin! Acai berries are also naturally sweet! So perfect for those with a sweet tooth like me!!!

In a nutri bullet or blender add

  • ¼ cup of coconut milk

  • ¼ cup of yoghurt of choice

  • Two frozen acai berry smoothie packs (I purchase mine from Ocado)

  • Handful of frozen berries (I use Organic frozen berries from Ocado)

  • 2 spoonfuls of Berry purition protein (Or your protein of choice, try to use berry flavour, vanilla or plain)

Mix and blend for 30 seconds

  • Pour over a bowl - eat as it is with a spoon

OR

  • Add toppings of choice, I normally add superfood breakfast by Naturya and organic coconut chips
